Sometimes we meet people with a natural sense of authority about them. Someone who stands straight, tall, looks respectable, and speaks with a loud and ear opening voice, he could almost be mistaken for military personnel. Although we run into people with high levels of confidence in what they say it still needs to be tested. We run into many on the street who have gained a lot of hearsay and kind of adapted it to what makes them feel better about their life and actions and to anyone else who may hear it, it may even sound philosophical and well thought out. But like I said earlier it needs to be tested. Even as a Christian many people kind of just go with the flow of what they hear in church or someone who sounds “Godly”. What we really need to be thinking is “let me search the Scriptures and see whether that it is true or not.”
I have met men on the street that say they have read the Bible cover to cover and yet don’t seem to get many of the key points because it was not studied and applied to their life. It was just a piece of literature to them, one that’s pretty popular, and they felt like they should just read it to say that they have read it. The thing is I think even sometimes as Christians who go to church, get involved, go to prayer meetings, do outreach, etc. we still miss some key points of the Bible and we can easily be persuaded away from what the Word actually says. So what can we take away from this? Well, are we just listening to people or are we looking at what God has actually said? Are you prepared to give a defense of the Word even if what a person believes sounds good? Do you know the difference?
