Last night we had four of us who all went out to Street 136 after our prayer and preparation time. We had one conversation that lasted nearly two hours. His name was *Alex and he is from Europe. This was his second encounter with someone from the MST Project. The first time he met with us was several weeks back, with a 'young woman' at the same location. The first part of the conversation was about the prostitution scene in Phnom Penh, which he described as 'the fast food' of prostitution compared to other parts of the world. He told us that he doesn't partake in it, and gets his needs met by having affairs with foreign women instead. However, when talking about the prostitution scene, the amount of detail and information he shared with us was enough to write a guide book for 'sex tourists'.
The second part of the conversation was about God, Jesus specifically. His approach to belief in Christ was very intellectual, dismissing both Christ and the Bible as being irrelevant in light of all the information available today. With that being his stand, we continued giving him our experiences and the experiences of others who have a relationship with Christ. Though he tried to rationalize most of what we said, small parts of our conversation seemed to give him pause. We also felt that there is something to be said about a fairly young man in a 'red light district' spending two hours with us. He was very calm and friendly the whole time. He may be very lonely, though he never said that, instead he voiced contentment over his situation in Cambodia.
Our prayers for Alex are that the seeds planted in his heart by both conversations will begin to grow, and soon he'll take up our invitation to call and meet so that we can go further, hopefully all the way to him having a relationship with Christ. Or perhaps we will see him in the future and he'll be open to exploring faith further with us then.
Will you join us in praying for Alex? We believe that God has not forgotten about him and neither will we.
